How to Cancel a Whatnot Order or Accidental Bid
Verified August 1, 2026. Refreshed Monthly.
Whatnot bids are generally binding. A buyer can request cancellation before shipment, but the seller normally decides whether to approve it.
How to request cancellation
Open the purchase and use the cancellation request option before the order ships.
The order status can change to Pending Cancellation while the seller reviews it.

Seller response window
Whatnot says the seller has 48 hours to respond.
- Approved: the order is canceled and refunded.
- Declined: the order remains final.
- No response in 48 hours: the order remains final and ships.
Do not assume silence means approval.
For more detail, see Whatnot refund and Buyer Protection rules.
Refund timing
Whatnot says approved cancellation refunds return to the original payment method, commonly within three through five business days after processing.
The financial institution can take additional time to display the credit.

Technical bidding error
Whatnot describes a limited exception when a technical issue affected an auction bid. The buyer should contact support within two hours of the error.
A technical error is not the same as:
- Regretting the price
- Misreading the listing
- Losing track of the active item
- Letting a child use the account
- Bidding against another buyer emotionally
State the exact technical behavior and include screenshots.
One-time exception
Eligible buyers may receive a one-time cancellation exception when a shipping label has not been created.
This does not apply to card breaks or products that are consumed or used on-screen.
Do not treat the exception as a guaranteed cancellation right.
Preventing accidental bids
- Confirm the listing title.
- Confirm the variant.
- Check the timer.
- Check Max Bid.
- Keep the bid control away from accidental touches.
- Do not share the unlocked device.
- Remove a saved payment method from a child’s device.
- Leave the show when emotionally chasing a bid.
- Use a pre-set maximum.
If the item was misrepresented
Cancellation and Buyer Protection are different.
A buyer who receives the wrong, damaged, counterfeit, or materially misdescribed item should use the purchase-support process, even when cancellation was denied.
Bottom line
Request cancellation immediately, expect seller review, and preserve evidence when a real technical error occurred. The best protection is confirming the listing and maximum before bidding.
